ArcelorMittal South Africa is investing ZAR250m in an emissions abatement system for the Sinter plant at the integrated steelworks in Vanderbijlpark. Using the best available technology involving bagfilter technology, the investment will make the Sinter plant a world-class facility.

Particulate emissions are expected to fall by more than 85 per cent from 150mg per normalised cubic metre to 20mg per normalised cubic metre.

As well as cutting down on particulate emissions, sulphur dioxide emissions will be reduced, while dioxins and furan emissions will be abated using the same system.
